Job description

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants, with a significant focus on the Army, which employs around 12,000 Civil Servants across more than 300 locations supporting 110,000 soldiers, both regular and reserve. This diverse workforce includes police officers, security guards, trainers, HR professionals, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, financiers, project managers, and policy staff.

JMC Southeast is a stand-alone Joint Military Command (JMC) comprising Regular Army, Civil Service, Army Reservists, and Aspire contractors. HQSE manages the Army’s interests in eight counties in the South-East, including the Isle of Wight, focusing on 'UK Operations', 'Firm Base', 'Engagement', and 'Cadets.' Its responsibilities range from ensuring the readiness of the Field Army to commanding UK Resilience Operations, supporting the Army’s operational success.

JMC SE facilitates the delivery of the 'Firm Base'—the Army infrastructure supporting personnel and their families in the region. It provides real-life support to units, engages with the civilian community and employers, and acts as the proponent for UK Resilience during crises.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of establishing a new Headquarters while continuing to support operational outputs for units, personnel, and families.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing first-line support for MODNET and standalone IT assets.
  • Managing standalone IT services across JMC SE Area of Responsibility, including auditing and expenditure scrutiny.
  • Creating and processing Business Cases for infrastructure and IT requests according to ACSO 1808.
  • Conducting site surveys with the ICS Officer to assess unit requirements regarding efficiency, cost, and compliance.
  • Managing the JMC IS/AV Loan Pool.
  • Configuring and managing assets such as desktops, laptops, and printers.
  • Procurement of IT and AV peripherals and equipment.
  • Supporting the standalone IT/AV budget management.
  • Serving as the contract purchasing and finance requestor for IT/AV needs.
  • Acting as MODNET Local Security Officer and secondary budget approver for JMC.
  • Maintaining equipment supporting UK Ops/JMC.
  • Providing SME advice on standalone IT, especially security matters.
  • Performing first-line repairs for IT/AV assets.
  • Deputy Information Technology Security Officer (DITSO) responsibilities, including Internet/WLAN accreditation.
  • Advising units on non-MODNET technical issues.
  • Managing disposal of obsolete IT/AV equipment via the DESA process.
  • Prioritizing tasks to support team outputs efficiently.
  • Supporting problem-solving with policy and instructions.
  • Providing information to support senior decision-making.
  • Communicating effectively via email, Teams, or face-to-face, considering the audience.
