Overview

This role is part of the Regimental Headquarters for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (FUSILIERS) as the Assistant Regimental Secretary with responsibility for the lead on financial matters. The position is advertised at 37 hours per week. You will be part of a friendly, professional team in a busy but rewarding environment.

We support a flexible working approach with a preference for in-office presence to maximise impact, recognising the benefits of face-to-face collaboration. There is an expectation that you would be in the office at least 60% of the time (3 days a week).

This role sits within Defence in the Civil Service, with the Army as a major operating centre; the workforce is diverse and includes a wide range of functions and professions. The post may involve weekend work and represents the Regiment at events as required.

Key responsibilities
  • Welfare: act as part of the Welfare Committee, manage grants/payments within charitable objectives, liaise with external charities (e.g., Army Benevolent Fund, Soldiers\' and Sailors\' etc.) to ensure efficient handling and recording of requests and maintain executive contact.
  • Websites: coordinate Regimental Website support, keep content up to date, promote Fusiliers Connect, and liaise with the app designer regarding developments.
  • Record Management: manage the Regimental database (SCRM), ensure legacy records are on a single system, act as Data Protection Assistant, manage the One Days\' Pay Scheme and charitable giving, and oversee distribution lists for the Regimental Journal with the publisher.
  • Finance: act as Finance Director for Regimental Charities, manage day-to-day accounts, liaise with fund managers and investment committee, prepare reports for Trustees and Regimental Council, and manage supplier relationships and grant opportunities; ensure governance compliance and organise annual audits for Fusiliers Aid Society and Fusiliers Fund.
  • General: deputise for the Regimental Secretary as required, represent the Regiment at events (including weekends), promote efficient use of RHQ resources, and organise annual social events.

Working arrangements and benefits
  • Alongside a salary of £36,530, the Ministry of Defence contributes £10,582 to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.   • The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits may be subject to a six-month probation period. Travel interview expenses are not reimbursed. A pay-related allowances review may affect current allowances.
