Architecture Governance & Practice Lead

£85,000 DOE

1-2 days a week Milton Keynes

My client is looking for an experienced Architecture Governance & Practice Lead to take ownership of architecture governance, assurance, and best practice across the organisation. This is a senior role for a strategic yet pragmatic leader who can drive consistency, quality, and long‑term value in technology delivery.

The Role

You will be responsible for shaping and leading the architecture governance framework and embedding strong architectural standards across programmes and initiatives. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will ensure architectural decisions are aligned to business strategy, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve the architecture governance framework, including policies, principles, standards, and review processes.
  • Lead architecture review boards and provide consistent evaluation of enterprise and solution architectures.
  • Ensure architectural decisions are evidence‑based, traceable, and aligned to long‑term business and technology goals.
  • Provide architectural assurance across programmes and initiatives as required.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and risk management requirements.
  • Oversee the identification, tracking, and remediation of technical debt.
  • Promote collaboration across technology teams and with vendors and third‑party service providers.
Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience in enterprise and solution architecture, architecture governance, and technology strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, SAFe, and Zachman.
  • Proven experience building, leading, or maturing an architecture practice.
  • Experience with asset management processes and tooling.
  • Strong background in cloud platforms, integration architectures, and emerging technologies.
  • Experience working with vendors, partners, and third‑party service providers.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. TOGAF, COBIT, ITIL) are highly desirable.
  • Experience in Financial Services or Insurance environments is advantageous.
