Job description

The Investment Banking Senior Analyst (the "Senior Analyst") is an intermediate level position responsible for providing bespoke strategic advisory services to clients within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG). The Senior Analyst is expected to work with Senior Bankers across EMEA in business origination and execution across Citi's product set, with particular focus on episodic and strategic financing transactions, including M&A and capital markets access. The overall objective of this role is to drive revenue by cross‑selling the Citi platform while efficiently deploying the firm's capital and evaluating and managing risk, specifically for financial institutions. This position is dedicated to the Financial Institution Group ("FIG") and focuses on financial institutions as clients, ranging from banks, insurers, diversified finance players, as well as Fintech companies and asset managers. The role encompasses:

  • Opportunity to join the team with heavy focus on a global client set and the delivery of market‑leading industry content, championing the delivery of Corporate Finance initiatives specifically within the FIG sector.
  • The Senior Analyst will also work very closely with multiple relationship teams throughout Citi and product partners including Capital Markets.
  • Providing analytical support, risk assessment, and monitoring of existing and new relationships within the FIG portfolio. Member of deal team for the origination and execution of episodic and Corporate Finance transactions involving FIG clients across EMEA.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of market and industry trends, "best practices," and competitive landscape relevant to the financial services sector.
  • Day‑to‑day responsibilities include developing client pitch materials tailored to meet FIG client needs, leading execution of episodic transactions / financings, and fostering and leveraging ongoing relationships across the EMEA region.
  • Responsible for evaluating public filings, research reports, operations, business plans, and financial forecasts to produce strategic and financial analyses specific to financial institutions.
  • The Senior Analyst will develop (i) in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the FIG business, (ii) an understanding of clients' priorities with the aim of identifying appropriate marketing opportunities, and (iii) strong relationships internally with key product, risk, and regional partners.

Certification and Fit & Proper Requirements

Candidates applying for this role must be aware that it is a Certified Role, subject to the FCA and PRA Certification Regime. The Certification Regime is one element of the Individual Accountability Regime which came into effect on 7 March 2016. Under the Certification Regime, Citi UK regulated entities (Citi entities) must ensure that employees working in certain roles categorised as specified significant harm functions (Certified Roles) are assessed as fit and proper to carry out their role. Under the guidance provided by the FCA and PRA, firms should have regard to the following when assessing fitness and propriety:

  • Honesty, integrity and reputation
  • Financial soundness
  • Competence and capability

In order to comply with the requirements of the Certification Regime, Citi entities must take reasonable care to ensure that an employee does not perform a Certified Role without first being certified as Fit and Proper. For this reason, you will be assessed for this role against the Fit and Proper requirements, as described above. This assessment will be carried out through extensive interviews, self‑disclosures, permitted criminal record checks, regulated reference checks, credit checks and other background screening checks.

Qualifications
  • Ideally 1 year + experience of working in an investment banking role or similar.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑starter – prepared to take the initiative to follow issues through, whilst exercising judgment as to when to seek assistance.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines.
