Job description

The North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Anaesthetic and Recovery Nurses/ODP for both full‑time and part‑time roles, part of the Anaesthetic and Recovery specialty. The post operates at Band 5 (Agenda For Change) and offers full training for newly qualified staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply specialist knowledge to practice in an acute critical care area across a range of diverse procedures.
  • Ensure the peri‑operative physical and psychological environment is conducive to optimal patient care.
  • Provide care to a designated caseload of patients, analysing, assessing and making clinical judgements within the remit of the role, and support junior staff.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, staff and external agencies, demonstrating empathy and reassurance.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, propose changes to improve practice, and organise the safe use of high‑complexity equipment and pharmaceutical products.
  • Upon successful completion of competency training, take charge of a designated area in theatre and sometimes cover the Operating Department in the absence of the Theatre Sister.
  • Abide by NMC or AOP statutory rules and the Pursuant legal requirements for nursing and operative practice.
  • Assist in establishing and implementing systems that evaluate standards of practice (e.g., Essence of Care, Nursing Strategy).
  • Maintain accurate, confidential peri‑operative care documentation.
  • Participate in research and audit, applying findings to clinical practice.
  • Initiate new ideas and evidence‑based practices.
  • Mentor and facilitate the education of nurses, ODPs, pre‑registered students, trainees and theatre support workers.
  • Demonstrate commitment to IWL principles, flexible working patterns, and to promoting equality, diversity, discrimination and harassment prevention.
  • Reduce sickness absence, workplace accidents and zero tolerance on violence against staff.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and maintain a Personal Development Plan.
