Job description

Join the Canal & River Trust as an Ambassador and help connect more people to our canals. Your role will help preserve our nation’s history and keep canals alive. You will have the opportunity to support events, be part of a supportive team, and gain a new appreciation for our environment.

We need your support to build awareness among those who have yet to discover our network. As an Ambassador, no two days are the same, offering diverse volunteer opportunities across our regions.

Support roles at our event days include: Let's Play, Canal Markets, Art & Culture, and walking festivals. Assistance may involve setting up, welcoming and enrolling participants, managing site access, and clearing away after events.

Why we want you

Our Ambassadors promote the value of our nation's canals and rivers by attending events, supporting campaigns like Share the Space, and engaging with supporters and the public. You will help represent the Trust, connect people to our waterways, and raise awareness for canals.

Our Ambassadors focus on public events, inviting the community to join, learn, try activities, and discover more about the Trust.

Other roles include Waterside Leader (leading activities like guided walks), Rangers, Lock Keepers, Explorers, Waterside Champions, and Youth Engagement roles, which engage with the public outside of event programs.

What you will be doing

  1. Attending external events and representing the Trust
  2. Giving talks to community groups
  3. Promoting waterways locally
  4. Assisting at museum and attraction events to share collections
