Headteacher & DSL - Alternative Provision (Kirklees)

Start: April 2026 | Contract: Temp → Permanent after probation

We're recruiting a Headteacher & Designated Safeguarding Lead for a small, developing independent school for KS2 pupils with SEMH needs. This unique role combines strategic leadership, safeguarding responsibility, and part-time teaching in a trauma-informed, outdoor-focused environment.

Key Points:

  • Lead the school, ensuring compliance with Independent School Standards and safeguarding.

  • Oversee curriculum, teaching quality, SEND provision, behaviour and wellbeing.

  • Teach 3 days/week; 2 days protected for leadership/admin.

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, families, staff, and local partners.

  • Generous CPD, therapeutic training, and supportive, relational culture.

Requirements:

  • Senior leadership experience and DSL competence.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding, SEND, trauma-informed practice, and Independent School Standards.

  • Desirable: NPQH, outdoor/therapeutic experience, multi-agency collaboration.
