An educational institution in Stone, England, is looking to recruit new governors to strengthen its team. The focus is on individuals with experience in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), essential for providing strategic oversight and engaging with the community. Governors will participate in meetings twice a term and are expected to undertake training to perform their duties effectively. This role is ideal for someone interested in education and community service, offering an opportunity to impact student success.
The Governing Board at Alleyne’s Academy is looking to recruit new governors to strengthen our team. We have a particular need for experience in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), as our current SEND governor will shortly be stepping down.
Governors at Alleyne’s Academy provide:
Alleyne’s Academy has a proud history dating back to 1558, with the motto “Nisi Dominus Frustra.” While this heritage remains central to our identity, our modern guiding principle is Effort with Guidance, reflecting how we grow success today.
We have also refreshed our core purpose to ensure it reflects our ambition for every member of our community
Governors work with the leadership team to agree the strategic improvement plan and monitor the impact of this work across the Academy.
The board maintains robust oversight of the Academy’s operations and performance, including education, pupil welfare and finance. Governors monitor these areas and hold academy leaders to account for performance, standards and compliance.
Governors ensure the Academy actively engages with parents/carers, pupils, staff and the local community. The board provides strategic oversight of these relationships so that decisions are informed by meaningful engagement.
To ensure strong oversight, each governor also takes on a link role aligned to a strategic priority or project. This usually involves one meeting per term with the relevant senior leader and reporting key findings back to the board.
We are specifically seeking someone with SEND knowledge and experience. This does not need to be in a school setting, as much of the role involves understanding and working with partner agencies. While many of our governors are current parents, we believe the SEND link role is best suited to someone who is not a parent at the school.
As an academy, we are both a charity and a company limited by guarantee. Governors/trustees therefore act as both charity trustees and company directors, and must comply with the relevant legal frameworks. Support and training are available.
