Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Agriculture & Rural Affairs Lawyer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advising and representing clients on a wide range of legal matters related to agriculture and rural affairs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and complex cases while making a significant impact on the agricultural sector and rural communities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and representation to clients in the agricultural sector, including farmers, landowners, rural businesses, and agricultural organizations.
  • Handle a diverse caseload covering various aspects of agricultural and rural law, including but not limited to:
    • Land transactions and property law
    • Farm tenancies and agricultural holdings
    • Environmental regulations and compliance
    • Planning and development issues
    • Diversification projects
    • Renewable energy initiatives
    • Subsidy and grant schemes
    • Contract farming agreements
    • Succession planning and inheritance matters
    • Dispute resolution and litigation
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents, including contracts, leases, and agreements specific to the agricultural sector.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in agricultural legislation, regulations, and policies at local, national, and international levels.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case preparation and provide sound legal advice.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, tribunals, and alternative dispute resolution processes when necessary.
  • Collaborate with other practice areas within the firm to provide comprehensive legal services to agricultural clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and professional networks.
  • Contribute to the firm's business development efforts by participating in marketing initiatives, speaking engagements, and industry events.
  • Mentor and supervise junior lawyers and paralegals working on agricultural and rural affairs matters.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and training sessions on relevant legal topics to clients and colleagues.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of best practices and procedures within the agricultural law practice.
Qualifications
  • Law degree (LLB or equivalent) and qualified to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • 2-15 years of post-qualification experience in agriculture and rural affairs law.
  • Proven track record as an Agricultural solicitor or Agriculture & Rural Affairs Lawyer.
  • In-depth knowledge of agricultural legislation, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Strong understanding of property law, environmental law, and planning regulations as they relate to the agricultural sector.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical and commercial legal advice.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong negotiation and advocacy skills, with experience representing clients in court and other legal proceedings.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases
