Vacancy at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic nurse to join our Specialist Palliative Care Team at Scarborough Hospital. We are looking for a compassionate and dynamic nurse leader to provide advanced clinical expertise and drive high‑quality palliative and end‑of‑life care across acute and community settings. You will work closely with the Lead Nurse, Consultants in Palliative Medicine, and the wider team to implement an innovative End of Life Care Strategy, lead service improvements, and support staff education and development.

The successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of palliative care, a passion for improving patient and family experience, and a commitment to collaborative, patient‑centred practice. Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Leadership – Provide expert clinical leadership and advanced palliative care to patients with complex needs across acute and community settings. Act as a role model and source of specialist advice to nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
• Specialist Assessment and Care Delivery – Undertake advanced assessments, develop and evaluate individualised care plans, and use non‑medical prescribing (where appropriate) to ensure timely and effective interventions.
• Leadership and Management – Provide day‑to‑day leadership within the Specialist Palliative Care Team. Contribute to workforce development, supervision, and appraisal of staff, and support service planning and resource management.
• Education and Training – Contribute towards the development, delivery, and evaluation of a Trust‑wide education strategy for palliative and end‑of‑life care in line with national ambitions and local priorities. Design and facilitate innovative learning programmes for all staff groups and contribute to post‑graduate teaching and training.
• Service Development and Quality Improvement – Work with the Lead Nurse for Palliative and End of Life Care and other senior colleagues to develop nurse‑led initiatives, implement evidence‑based practice, and lead on quality improvement projects that enhance patient outcomes and experience.
• Audit and Research – Participate in and lead clinical audits, contribute to the research agenda within specialist palliative care, and evaluate outcomes to inform policy and practice improvements.
• Communication and Collaboration – Communicate complex and sensitive information with patients, families, and professionals. Foster strong multidisciplinary and cross‑sector partnerships to ensure seamless, person‑centred care across all settings.
