Description

Job title: Advanced Apprentice Engineering - Trials and Commissioning

Location: Glasgow

Salary: Starting from £23,272 with annual progression through the scheme duration.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Specialised Experience: Engage in highly skilled work within the Trials & Commissioning department, gaining valuable insights from a diverse team of mechanical and electrical engineers, and developing a strong foundation in engineering practices.
  • Diverse Responsibilities: Participate in multi-disciplinary teams responsible for essential ship systems, including HVAC & Hotel (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and freshwater production), Power & Propulsion (gas turbines and diesel generators), Hull & Deck (mission bay handling systems), Fixed Fire‑Fighting systems, the Platform Management System for remote equipment control, and Low Voltage operations.
  • Hands‑On Learning: Acquire practical experience in setting systems and machinery to work for the first time, conducting fault finding, and undertaking both basin and sea trials to ensure operational readiness and safety.
  • Collaboration with Experts: Work closely with Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy personnel to facilitate smooth handovers, addressing any operational problems that arise and developing effective solutions, either on your own or as part of a collaborative team.
  • Continuous Development: Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of commissioning processes and procedures in response to technical advancements and operational requirements, under the guidance of a Senior Commissioning Manager dedicated to the successful commissioning and trials phases.
What Qualification Will You Get?

  • Discipline Specific Higher National Certificate
  • Level 7 Engineering Diploma Pathway C: Engineering Technical Support
