Job description

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) has been assessed as competent in practice using their expert clinical knowledge and skills. They have the freedom and authority to act and make autonomous decisions in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Main duties of the job
  • Develop, implement and embed health promotion and wellbeing programmes
  • Manage patients presenting with a range of acute and chronic medical conditions, providing subject matter expert advice
  • Provide advanced, specialist nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF
  • Request pathology services as necessary
  • Process and interpret pathology and other test results as required
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation
  • Ensure SNOMED CT codes are used effectively
  • Prioritise health issues and intervene appropriately
  • Support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies
  • Recognise, assess and refer patients presenting with mental health needs
  • Be an extended and supplementary prescriber, adhering to extant guidance
  • Support patients in the use of their prescribed medicines or over the counter medicines (within own scope of practice), reviewing annually as required
  • Liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients, etc.)
  • Support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policies
  • Understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriately

Abbey Road Surgery is a well-established and highly respected GP practice, operating from purpose built bright modern premises, providing care to 6,700 patients in Barrow-in-Furness. We are a high achieving practice with consistently excellent QOF results offering staff and patients a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team.

We are based in South Cumbria just 30 minutes drive from Lake Windermere. We are looking for an experienced advanced nurse practitioner to join our successful and well-respected training practice. We are a supportive and friendly team made up of 3 GP partners and 2 salaried GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 3 HCAs/GPAs and a superb administration team. We are part of a strong, successful Primary Care Network and have strong links with community teams such as Health Visitors, Safeguarding Teams, Macmillan Nurses and Case Management.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Masters degree required for qualification post December 2020 refer to RCN Credentialing for Advanced Level of Nursing Practice (ALNP) or a degree for Advanced Practice Qualification up to December 2020
  • Qualified Independent Nurse Prescriber on the NMC register
  • Has evidence of working at an enhanced level, as described in the Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career and Core Capabilities Framework
  • Meets NMC revalidation requirements in accordance with the NMC Revalidation booklet
Experience
  • Experience in working within Primary Care
  • Experience of prescribing and undertaking medication reviews
  • Experience of working in a GP Practice
