Overview

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe and a leader in cancer care with a track record of nursing innovation, pioneering treatments and anti-cancer drugs development. The Administration Business Manager role involves the day-to-day operational management of the Cancer Services Division, and PA and secretarial services. The post holder's focus is primarily on the Sutton site, with cross-cover duties for the Chelsea site. In addition to operational management, the post holder will lead key service improvements to deliver a high-quality, comprehensive administrative service.

The Administration Business Manager reports to the Deputy Clinical Business Unit Manager and is responsible for managing all medical secretary and administration staff within the Cancer Services division. There are two Administration Business Managers – one for Sutton and one for Chelsea – who are responsible for line managing the medical secretary team leads on their site.

We employ over 4,500 staff across nursing, medical, science, radiography, pharmacy, occupational therapy, finance and administrative services. The Royal Marsden operates two hospitals in Chelsea, London, and Sutton, Surrey, plus a Medical Daycare Unit in Kingston Hospital. Responsibilities
  • The role of the Administration Business Manager is to ensure a high-quality service is provided for patients and specialties at all times.
  • To provide strong and effective leadership to medical administration teams.
  • To ensure delivery against all key targets and performance indicators.
  • To analyse and report service level activity and access performance information for a range of audiences.
  • To develop measures of monitoring activity for the division, and to set targets where necessary.
  • Liaise with the Deputy Divisional Director and Finance Manager on any areas of concern relating to performance.
  • Represent the Division at various meetings as required and ensure that outcomes and actions are communicated back to the Division appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the investigation of patient complainants to ensure that appropriate and timely responses are given and that trends are identified and remedial action taken.
  • To assist the Deputy Divisional Director in considering demand and capacity for inpatient and outpatient activity and contribute to pathway mapping as requested.
  • The post holder will identify and implement initiatives to improve services. The ability to communicate effectively at all levels within a complex multidisciplinary environment is essential.
