Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent telephony and administrative support to court users, judiciary, mediators and management.
  • Carry out general administrative duties to progress cases through the Court system or support other HMCTS functions; may require contact with other courts and venues as cases are listed for hearing.
  • Data entry from paper and digital sources; manage customer complaints and correspondence; liaise with judges via email and telephone.

Your Role

The Tax Chamber handles appeals against HMRC decisions relating to taxes, duties and statutory payments. We also handle some appeals related to goods seized by HMRC or Border Force, and decisions by the National Crime Agency. Our administrative teams in Birmingham form the core of National Services.

  • Ability to deliver proactive and effective customer support; attention to detail; accurate data entry and proficiency with various software packages.
  • Strong time management, prioritisation, and multi-tasking in a busy environment.
Other Details
  • These operational roles are customer-facing and office-based; non-contractual hybrid working may be available and determined by business needs. All candidates should be prepared to work from an office.
  • Standard full-time hours are 37 per week; part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns are welcomed where they meet role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment.

  • Hybrid working arrangements blend base location, MoJ sites and/or home, subject to 60% office time minimum and local estate capacity.
Visa and Right to Work

From 22 July 2025, the Government increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship for applicants applying for Skilled Worker visas for the first time unless conditions of continuous sponsorship are met. Details on eligibility, transitional provisions and right to work will be assessed during vetting.
