Overview

Band 6 Acute Oncology Specialist Nurse role within a dynamic multidisciplinary team. Responsible for using professional judgement and assuming accountability for assessing, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe, caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy, and respect. The post holder will develop knowledge and skills within the chosen specialty and assist in the management and organisation of nursing work in the Acute Oncology specialist team within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The post holder will supervise the work of all team members and support the training and assessment of student nurses, whilst demonstrating the Trust values and behaviours for nursing and midwifery staff at all times. This is a dynamic team focused on safe and high‑quality care for acutely ill patients in a busy, fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Be a member of the multidisciplinary team using professional judgement to assess, implement and evaluate clinical care for patients.
  • Develop knowledge and skills within the chosen specialty and assist in management and organisation of nursing work.
  • Supervise and support the training and assessment of student nurses and contribute to the professional development of the team.
  • Adhere to best practice standards and comply with Trust policies for personal and patient safety and the prevention of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Provide leadership within the team and participate in the delivery of high‑quality care in a busy clinical setting.

  • The post holder has a duty of care to patients and must comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Act in a way that promotes the positive image of the ward/clinical area and the Trust.
  • Identify potential and actual risks using the Trust incident reporting system and raise concerns appropriately (child protection and protection of vulnerable adults).
  • Take appropriate action in emergency situations and support the management of patient safety.
  • Produce Personal Development Profiles for self and staff, facilitate training, audit and leadership, and work to reduce sickness absence and promote a safe workplace.
