Fletcher Ward is a 17 bed Acute Mental Health Unit, treating functional mental health conditions in a supportive and therapeutic environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team that is forward thinking and innovative.

We are looking for a full time Activity Coordinator to join our team. The post holder will provide meaningful activities for the patients who are admitted to the ward and will require the successful candidate to work flexibly, including weekends and evenings.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who is able to work under their own initiative, to motivate and encourage patients within a positive and active environment. The role will require good motivational and physical activity skills and the ability to use own initiative to provide activities. You will be working closely with the Occupational therapy and Nursing team to provide meaningful activities for patients.

Qualifications and proven experience in vocational activities, arts or complementary therapies, horticulture etc. would be welcome. Candidates should have an interest in group work with an understanding of the value of structure and activity in improving mental health.

Person Specification
  • Qualification to level 3 or equivalent experience in relevant subject
  • Experience of providing social and recreational activities in group settings and with individuals
  • Experience of working with people who have cognitive, physical, learning disability or challenging behaviour.
Skills and Aptitude
  • Ability to use persuasive, motivational and reassurance strategies to build rapport and engage patients in activities
  • Personal practical or creative skills eg. craft, music, art, cookery, physical activities
  • Able to self-motivate and work on own initiative
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to changing environment and patient' needs
