Job description
Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for two dynamic, inspiring individuals to join our teams on Elm Ward at Sherwood Oaks Hospital. Elm Ward is an 18-bed Mental Health Acute Ward providing assessment and treatment for males aged 18 and over with varied diagnoses of mental health.

As a valued member of our team, your role will be to plan daily activities on the ward with the nursing team and encourage patients to take part individually and as part of a group. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside other AHPs in providing activities on and off the ward. Your feedback relating to patients’ participation will be communicated verbally to the MDT and in writing within patients’ electronic notes. Training opportunities will be available to increase knowledge and skills to deliver a high-quality service for our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide social and therapeutic activities for individuals and groups of patients.
  • Identify patients’ current and past social interests in consultation with patients and carers.
  • With the nursing team and Occupational Therapists, develop individual care programmes and ensure needs are met.
  • Organise and participate in patient outings and social events from the ward.
  • Develop group work skills to provide appropriate opportunities to patients on and off the ward.
  • Participate in alternative therapies for patients (e.g., massage, multi-sensory work, aromatherapy) when appropriate training has been completed and in line with Trust policy.
  • Liaise with outside agencies as appropriate for activities and entertainment of patients.
  • Liaise with families to build individualised care for patients.
  • Confidently document and communicate activities and findings.
  • Assist in providing a varied and ongoing programme of therapeutic social activity for patients (on an individual and group basis) and maximise the range of therapeutic activity to enhance quality of life.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Relevant experience in social/therapeutic activity coordination within a mental health setting preferred.
  • Ability to work with nursing and AHP colleagues to plan and deliver patient-centred activities.
  • Good communication skills with patients, families, and MDT members.
  • Training opportunities will be provided to develop skills needed to deliver high-quality care.
  • DBS check is required; please note the applicant will pay for the DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment: £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced). You may enrol in the DBS Update Service for an annual fee of £16.
  • Applicants requiring a Skilled Worker Visa should review eligibility for a Certificate of Sponsorship against the relevant criteria.
