About the role

Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city. We have an exciting opportunity for two Academic Skills Tutors to join our newly formed Academic Skills Team within Library & Learning Resources. The role will suit someone from a library, learner developer, teaching or coaching background, who is passionate about helping students succeed and has experience in delivering academic skills support.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored and specialist support to students on a range of academic skills
  • Deliver embedded teaching sessions, group workshops and one-to-ones
  • Develop supporting accessible and engaging learning materials
  • Work closely with Academic Skills Managers and Library Business Partners to ensure alignment with course and subject requirements
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of the service
Qualifications
  • Experience of delivering academic skills support
  • Experience in designing and delivering group workshops, 1-1 sessions, and online learning materials
  • Ability to work with and support students with varying learning needs in becoming independent learners
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Dedication to promoting accessibility, student success, and continuous improvement in academic support services
