Job description
Overview

Location: Filton, Bristol. Travel Required: Some travel within UK and Europe.

Our world is changing. From our commitment to zero-carbon flight (ZEROe) to cleaning up space, sustainability is at the heart of our purpose.

About the Role

Are you passionate about Aircraft Structures with a strong experience in Fatigue & Damage Tolerance and Static Stress? Are you curious and keen to support technical investigations arising from in-service issues on our A300/A310 fleet of more than 260 in-service aircraft with over 20 operators?

You will be involved in a variety of projects and investigations, including A300/A310 digitalisation, sustainability and spare obsolescence management, to support the next 15 years of operation with our key Freighter customers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) as well as unique operators (Zero-G, A310 MRTT, Beluga ST, PAX to Freighter operators). If you are familiar with Airbus Fatigue & Damage Tolerance processes and tools, you should also be open to developing new skills such as static stress and continued airworthiness support. This is the opportunity to join the Senior F&DT engineer role within the A300/A310 Wing Structures Engineering team.

This is a unique prospect to join a dynamic and diverse team working on Engineering tasks as part of the Customer Services Organisation, focused on delivering the best value for our customers. Your primary role will be to support the A300/A310 Chief Engineers Office and ultimately the in-service fleet, reacting to operators' requests and queries, as well as leading in-service occurrences, investigations and supporting modifications and improvement projects. You will be responsible for providing leadership and delivery of approved design data in line with valid methods, processes and tools to the A300/A310 programme, in Time, Cost and Quality.

You will work closely with and provide strong guidance to the A300/A310 Wing Structures Design Office and sub-contract agencies. You will collaborate with Airworthiness, Repair and Maintenance Engineering, and you will have opportunities to develop technical and leadership skills.

You may also work on other Airbus Programmes such as A320, A330 and A380.

Your main tasks and responsibilities
  • Be the focal point for A300/A310 F&DT and Static Stress queries and support answers to operators and airworthiness authorities for specific tasks, using engineering judgement as required.
  • Scope and provide technical guidance and management of F&DT activities, internally or subcontracted.
  • F&DT Calculations / Justification reports: update as required due to in-service queries, investigations, or airworthiness requirement evolution.
  • Develop toward gaining delegated approval and authorisation signatory for A300/A310 Wing F&DT and act as needed as Approval and Authorisation signatory.
  • Lead In-service Continued Airworthiness investigations.
  • Ensure consistency of approach with other Programmes and other A300/A310 Stress teams in France and Germany.
  • Report critical technical issues to Chief Engineers Office.
About You

You have working experience of Fatigue & Damage Tolerance, ideally on Wing Design, and can rapidly understand F&DT calculations and processes to support operators' queries and lead in-service investigations. You are curious, open-minded, autonomous and excited about leading or supporting varied projects. You have experience guiding less experienced stress engineers and managing sub-contracted technical activities.

If you are not an F&DT signatory and Airworthiness RO Level 2, you will be expected to develop to obtain delegated approval and authorisation signatory for A300/A310 Wing within 6 months of joining the team. The role requires excellent communication skills to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including alignment with Wing teams on other Programmes and other A300/A310 Airframe teams in France and Germany to ensure a consistent approach.
