Due to some expansion within our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), an exciting opportunity has arisen for two dedicated and forward-thinking Psychologists to join our dynamic CAMHS teams. We are seeking enthusiastic professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based psychological care, and who are eager to contribute positively to the mental health and wellbeing of young people within our community.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong assessment, formulation, and therapeutic skills, as well as the ability to manage complex cases. Excellent communication, interpersonal abilities, and a compassionate, person-centred approach are essential.

The posts are offered at a band 8a, but newly qualified or soon to qualify Psychologists are welcome to apply and would be eligible for a band 7 role, with the potential for progression from band 7 to 8a through a competency-based gateway.

About the Role

As a CAMHS Psychologist, you will provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for children, adolescents, and their families presenting with a wide range of complex emotional, behavioural, and psychological difficulties. You will work closely and collaboratively with children and young people, their families and carers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic, person-centred care that is both effective and compassionate.

Your role will involve:

• Conducting comprehensive psychological assessments
• Developing and delivering therapeutic interventions, to individuals and groups, based on best practice, current NICE guidelines and the latest research.
• Formulating psychological understanding of cases, contributing to multidisciplinary case discussions and care planning.
• Providing specialist psychological advice, consultation, and training to colleagues within CAMHS.
• Engaging in risk assessment and management, supporting the safety and protection of young people and their families.
• Actively participating in service development, quality improvement initiatives, and audit processes to enhance the effectiveness of our services.
• Contributing to the supervision and development of trainee psychologists, assistants, and other team members as appropriate.
• Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service provision.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Good Honours degree in Psychology (2 : 1 or above). Eligibility for Graduate membership of the BPS.
• Post–graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 6 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the BPS / HCPC.
• Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist by the HCPC.
• Eligible for Chartered status with the BPS.
• In addition to routine CPD and supervision, has demonstrated a clear commitment to developing a specialist area of expertise relevant to the post through significant training, personal study or experience (essential for Band 8a role).
• Post qualification training in supervision of other psychologists (essential for Band 8a role).
• Significant post qualification specialist training / experience through having provided assessment / intervention to older people with mental health problems including dementia and other cognitive problems under clinical supervision whilst working as a Specialist Clinical Psychologist (essential for Band 8a role).

Desirable criteria

• Chartered status with the BPS.

Experience

Essential criteria

• Experience of working with people with a range of mental health / psychological problems and across the lifespan and a variety of settings.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC. (Applicable to and essential for 8a role).
• Evidence of taking full clinical responsibility for clients with a range of mental health problems and severity, within the context of multi-disciplinary care (essential for Band 8a role).

Desirable criteria

• Expertise and interest in a specialist area relevant to older adult mental health.

Knowledge

• Assessment and therapeutic skills related to complex, severe and enduring mental health problems.

Other

• Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post, which includes being able to travel efficiently to different bases and completing home visits.
