2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire

Security Clearance Level: High – SC

We are looking for someone with a passion for infrastructure, ideally from an operational support services background. You will be self-motivated and able to work autonomously to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also owning a variety of activities ensuring compliance with project milestones and customer KPI’s and SLA’s. You must be an effective communicator, comfortable directly engaging with customers and colleagues. You must also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Provide remote and on-site support for infrastructure services.
  • Contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation to support project work or the operational support service.
  • Provide out of hours on-call support as required.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent knowledge of Virtualized Environments such as VMware and Hyper-V; VMware Horizon is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows Server Environments (Server 2008–2022), including OS builds for Windows 10 & 11, AD, DNS, DHCP, and GPO, from design to implementation and support.
  • Strong Linux system administration skills (Ubuntu / CentOS).
  • Good general knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies including load balancing and firewalls.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies (SharePoint, Skype for Business / Teams, MS SQL, System Center, Office 365, SCCM & SCOM, Power BI, MS Exchange) and CLI tooling (PowerShell).
  • Good knowledge of SAN storage technologies.
  • Knowledge of 2 Factor Authentication technologies.
  • Some knowledge/experience with scripting.
  • Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills with ownership of complex incidents and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard.
  • Knowledge of helpdesk ticketing systems.
  • ITIL 3 or ITIL 4 Foundation level or above.
