NHS Lothian is delivering an on-going service to all mothers eligible to the programme. To enable these plans, NHS Lothian are required to recruit replacement members of staff to join the FNP team.

The FNP Nurse will be registered with the NMC on sub part 1 or midwifery part of the register, be educated to degree level in a relevant subject, and have either Masters level education or be able to demonstrate clinical practice and characteristics at Masters level. Ideal candidates will have evidence of recognised nursing leadership skills and a willingness to work both innovatively and flexibly (on occasions out with core hours). Candidates will have experience in working with and engaging children, young people and families in communities encountering a range of inequalities.

The Family Nurse will work with a maximum of 25 pregnant first time young mothers and their babies at any one time, up until the child is 2 years of age, working to the FNP model.

The successful applicant would need to be available to attend mandatory training events held across the country including residential training.

  • 23rd Feb – 6th March 2026 - 10 day non-residential - in Base
  • 9th to 13th of March 2026- 5 day/ 4 nights Residential- venue to be confirmed
  • 5th May 2026- 1 day Non Residential- venue to be confirmed
  • 2nd-3rd of June 2026 2 day/ 1 night Residential- venue to be confirmed
  • 25th of August 2026 I day Non Residential- venue to be confirmed
  • 27th- 29th of October 2026 – 3 days /2 nights Residential- venue to be confirmed
  • 25th -26th of November 2026 – 2 days I night Residential- venue to be confirmed

These dates are compulsory and additional dates for 2026 will be confirmed in due course. In addition, there are a significant number of 1-2 day training events throughout 2026/2027 which the family nurse will be required to attend.
