Barnsley Hospitals Orthopaedic Elective Ward nowhas a Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse vacancy for a permanent full-time position.

We are a 19 bedded ward delivering care to electivepatients ranging from day cases to major joint replacement surgeries.Ultimately, we assist patients in their recovery alongside Medics andTherapists to achieve their optimal level of independence and safe dischargehome.

With significant delays in elective surgery as aresult of the COVID-19 pandemic, our service is

recovering to combat the long waiting lists. We arelooking to develop our service to achieve 24-hour discharge in hip and kneereplacements. So, we are seeking someone passionate and enthusiastic to jointhe nursing team to achieve optimal recovery and timely turnaround for patientsin a dynamic environment.

Main duties of the job

help deliver a high-quality service within ElectiveOrthopaedics we want to hear from you.

You will support and deputise for the Lead Nurse bymanaging and co-ordinating the day-to-day function of the ward, acting as wardrepresentative in the absence of the Lead Nurse. You will be responsible formaintaining the provision of outstanding nursing care, effective staffmanagement, staff and student education and development, and being a clinicalresource for staff, patients and visitors.

As a senior member of the team, you will berequired to have effective interpersonal communication, decision-making, andteam working skills. It is essential that you have an in-depth knowledge ofcurrent healthcare issues, risk management, and clinical governance, as well asquality, audit and its implementation.

You will be expected to prioritise and delegate yourown and the teams workload to meet the demands of multiple theatre lists andin-patient care. There will be ample opportunity for you to develop yourteaching and mentoring skills as you will lead on particular clinical areas,and support our students and newly qualified nurses with support from ourclinical educator.
