About the Role

The Team

You will join a dynamic team of 21 analysts located across London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and Madrid. The team focuses on the Retail Food and Leisure industries in Europe which includes food manufacturers, apparel and specialty retailers, restaurants, travel, lodging, parks, gaming and sports companies. A significant number of the companies we analyse are owned by private equity investors, resulting in highly leveraged capital structures and a very high proportion of high‑yield credits. Our work is fast‑paced and driven by continuous credit events as a result of shifting consumption patterns, changes in operating performance, local regulations, dividend recapitalisations, refinancing and M&A transactions. As part of a highly collaborative environment you will play a critical role in ensuring sound ratings and rating transitions for a portfolio of 12‑14 EMEA‑based corporates.

The Impact

As a Senior Analyst you will have the opportunity to significantly influence the credit ratings process within the European Retail Food and Leisure industries. Your work will directly contribute to S&P Global Ratings reputation as the leading credit rating agency in these industries. You will be responsible for developing your analytical and communication skills to become the primary analyst on your assigned names, ensuring adherence to high quality and compliance standards throughout the rating process.

What You Stand to Gain

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with senior management teams of major corporate entities and investors in the EMEA region. You will develop strong relationships with issuers, intermediaries and investors, enhancing your professional network. Additionally you will gain valuable experience in a high‑pressure environment allowing you refine your skills in credit analysis and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a large portfolio of issuers supported by your Lead Analyst and develop the necessary analytical and communication skills to be the primary analyst on these names.
  • Interact with senior officials of issuers during Management Meetings and participate in Rating Committees.
  • Develop effective relationships with issuers and other stakeholders and actively participate as a spokesperson for S&P Global with investors. Understand and apply appropriate rating methodologies, ensuring compliance with all guidelines, procedures and standard operating policies for credit rating activities.
  • Contribute to team initiatives aimed at improving efficiencies and ensuring high‑quality output.
  • All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week.
  • We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in‑person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
What Are We Looking For:
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or a related field; an MBA, CFA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • Relevant work experience in conducting corporate credit analysis for high‑yield entities ideally gained in an investing institution, asset manager, commercial or investment bank, audit firm or rating agency.
  • Knowledge of the Retail Food or Leisure sectors will be advantageous.
  • A team player with excellent time‑management skills capable of managing competing priorities and working across multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent S&P Global Ratings professionally in meetings with senior management, rating advisers and investors. Solid written and verbal communication skills in English are required; fluency in French or German will be a clear advantage.
  • Ability to uphold high quality and compliance standards in a regulated environment.
  • Willingness to travel substantially, sometimes at short notice, with preferred locations for the candidate being Frankfurt or Paris.
