We are seeking a senior specialist in rail welding machinery, with deep expertise in Flash Butt Welding (FBW) technologies, to support a short-term strategic consulting assignment focused on future rail welding solutions

Scope of work
  • Map the global FBW machinery landscape, with emphasis on mobile, semi-mobile, and compact systems
  • Assess technology evolution pathways: automation, digital control, data capture, and miniaturisation of FBW equipment
  • Compare FBW vs ATW from a forward-looking perspective: productivity, scalability, workforce dependency, and long‑term LCC
  • Identify next‑generation design levers: reduced footprint, lower mass, modular architectures, energy efficiency, and faster deployment
  • Provide insight into breakthrough vs incremental innovation trajectories and realistic time‑to‑market
  • Contribute to strategic scenarios with a clear view on future FBW competitiveness
Profile sought
  • 10 plus years of experience in rail welding machinery, heavy welding equipment, or industrial automation
  • Hands‑on exposure to FBW systems, ideally including mobile or compact configurations
  • Strong understanding of design trade‑offs in machinery miniaturisation (power density, cooling, control, reliability)
  • Ability to articulate future technology directions and their strategic implications for rail infrastructure players
  • Background with OEMs, system integrators, or advanced rail contractors strongly preferred
