Offer Description

The European School of Political and Social Science (ESPOL) at the Catholic University of Lille invites applications for a Professor in political sciences on a permanent contract.

He/she directs, as deputy‑director for scientific affairs, the school's scientific policy and ensures the visibility of the research activity conducted at ESPOL.

Details of duties:

  • Work with the Director, to define and implement the institution's scientific policy (institutional links, involvement in research networks, development of the doctoral school at the Université Polytechnique Hauts de France and development of new strategic projects).
  • Manage ESPOL‑LAB and organise, in collaboration with the research axis leaders, the lab's events and seminars, as well as represent ESPOL‑LAB in ICL bodies and the doctoral school of the Université Polytechnique des Hauts de France.
  • Managing responsibilities (annual performance reviews, helping develop competences, time sheets) and support colleagues in preparing for the HDR.
  • Participate in the senior management team, the Executive Committee, annual management dialogue meetings, ICL research bodies and represent the school at graduation ceremonies, open days and immersion days.
  • Prepare and develop reports related to the scientific and international development of ESPOL (activity reports, HCERES reports, etc.).
  • Support ESPOL's development (creation of new courses and projects, ensuring the integration of research priorities into the master's strategy, recruitment of teacher‑researchers).
  • Organise, in conjunction with the Director, the recruitment of faculty.

The candidate must hold a PhD in political science or a related discipline (economics, law, history, etc.) and have an HDR (French qualification to supervise research, or the equivalent issued in another country), or already be employed as a Professor. Experience abroad would be particularly appreciated.

The candidate must have at least 10 years of post‑doctoral experience. Publications in high‑impact scientific journals, participation in international networks and the acquisition of external funding will demonstrate excellent research experience. The candidate will have a good knowledge of French higher education and research and how it works, as well as the international academic landscape.

Background

With over 43,000 students, the Catholic University of Lille, founded in 1875, is the largest private, not‑for‑profit, multidisciplinary university comprising five faculties (Medicine, Law, Economics, Theology and Humanities), twenty schools and institutes, six engineering schools, three business and management schools, medical, paramedical, social, service management schools, a hospital group – and a total of around 50 research teams.

Founded in 2012, ESPOL is a school of the Catholic University of Lille which offers multidisciplinary, bilingual (English‑French) programmes preparing students for political, European and international careers. Collaborative research at its lab, ESPOL‑Lab, brings together over twenty‑five French and foreign researchers, centres around three thematic areas that take aim at the contemporary transformation of politics: (1) “Quality of democracy”, (2) “Reconfigurations of the international”, and (3) “Societal transformations and sustainability”. Europe is a structuring dimension of the research carried out at ESPOL, present in each of the three thematic areas.

Eligibility
  • The candidate must hold a PhD in political science or a related discipline (economics, law, history, etc.) and have an HDR (French qualification to supervise research, or the equivalent issued in another country), or already be employed as a Professor.   • The candidate must have at least 10 years of post‑doctoral experience.   • The field of specialization is open, but with a view to integration into ESPOL‑LAB, candidates who incorporate an interdisciplinary dimension into their research are encouraged to apply.
  • Administrative responsibility (research management, programme management, etc.) or managerial experience is required.

Additional Information
