A leading engineering firm in Paris is seeking a MAIT Engineer to support sustainability initiatives within space activities. Candidates should have a Master's degree and 3-5 years of experience in Sustainability Engineering. Key responsibilities include estimating environmental impacts, contributing to mitigation strategies, and supporting regulatory compliance. Fluency in English is mandatory. Responsibilities
  • Support the estimate of environmental impacts, including contributions to the assessment of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption associated with manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing (MAIT) activities.
  • Contribute to the identification and definition of environmental footprint mitigation measures, applicable to industrial production and integration activities in the space sector.
  • Support the monitoring and interpretation of regulatory developments, contributing to the identification of potential implications for ESA programmes and the formulation of resilience‑oriented mitigation approaches.
  • Support the development of environmental sustainability roadmaps, including inputs to long‑term strategies aiming at net‑zero emissions for space system production activities.
  • Collect and analyse data and knowledge on environmental impact mitigation, drawing from scientific literature, European/National/Regional policies and plans, industry‑led initiatives, and relevant standards.
  • Produce and provide a consolidated synthesis of mitigation knowledge, aimed at informing ESA’s strategic planning and programme‑level decisions.
  • Support the implementation of data‑driven decision‑making processes, contributing to the evaluation and prioritisation of environmental mitigation initiatives.
  • Support the preparation of environmental mitigation plans, leveraging existing frameworks and plans at European, national, regional, and local levels.
  • Support ESA teams in the implementation of selected environmental initiatives, including all relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, or related field;
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience;
  • Knowledge and experience in Sustainability Engineering topics (Clean Space, Zero Debris, Eco‑Design, Space Circular Economy, Active Debris Removal, In‑Orbit Servicing);
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental regulations, such as REACh and RoHS;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
