Overview

A Japanese publishing company is recruiting a Licensing Coordinator to work in their Paris office. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of publishing licensing activities, ensure compliance with standards, negotiate licensing deals, and maintain relationships with rights holders and licensees. The ideal candidate should have strong negotiation and market analysis skills, experience in publishing licensing, and the ability to build lasting relationships. Business travel is required in Europe and Japan.

Location: Paris, France. Type: CDI. Working hours: From Monday to Friday, 39h/week. Salary: up to €30k, depending on experience. Start: July or August 2025.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the direct supervisor to gain expertise in all aspects of publishing licensing activities, policies, objectives, and initiatives for both print and digital formats in the assigned territories.
  • Ensure the smooth execution of all licensing cycles in the assigned territories.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor, team members, and approval team to ensure licensed content complies with internal standards and rights holders’ guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor and the Contract & Royalty team to analyse royalty statements, track payments, and follow up on financial transactions.
  • Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with rights holders, licensees, and publishing partners.
  • Identify the best partners and negotiate the best licensing conditions on all publishing licensing deals in the assigned territories.
  • Conduct market research and analysis, and monitor the effectiveness of licensing strategies.
  • Provide licensors with regular and timely market updates to support accurate and strategic decision-making that aligns with both rights holders’ expectations and market needs.
  • Encourage licensees to promote licensed titles through marketing initiatives and negotiate necessary approvals with licensors to maximize sales performance.
  • Prepare all necessary documentation in a timely manner to finalize licensing deals, in collaboration with the Contract & Royalty team.
  • Proceed with design approvals of books and/or promotional items in collaboration with the approval team and licensors.
  • Monitor release schedules and the latest cover prices of licensed works to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Ensure the quality of translated books and promotional goods produced by licensees by coordinating appropriate materials arrangement and checking final products in collaboration with the Material & Reference Management team.
  • Organise and facilitate meetings between licensors and licensees.
  • Coordinate logistics and on-site support to ensure smooth execution when inviting licensors’ authors.
  • Assess risk of discontinuation of publication of ongoing titles, closure of publishing business in licensee’s company, and any other crisis in the assigned territories, and find a solution in collaboration with the direct supervisor.
Ideal Candidate
  • More than 2 years of professional experience (ideally in a B2B industry).
  • Business-level fluency in English.
  • Japanese at a bilingual level.
  • PC skills (MS Office).
  • Open-minded, flexible, punctual, communicative, attentive, respectful.
  • Comfortable in a multicultural environment.
  • Interested in manga/publishing industry and experience in intercultural teamwork.
