Senior Process Engineer / Madrid

Location: Madrid, Spain

Job Summary

As a Senior Process Engineer , you will lead the process engineering team to ensure the efficient, safe, and compliant design, operation, and optimization of production facilities. You will drive process improvements, safety, and innovation while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to align technical solutions with operational and business goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process Design & Optimization

• Lead process design, simulation, and optimization for production facilities (e.g., oil & gas processing, refining, or petrochemical plants).
• Develop P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), process flow diagrams (PFDs), and equipment specifications.
• Utilize process simulation software (e.g., HYSYS, Aspen Plus, PRO/II) to model and optimize facility performance.

2. Process Safety & Compliance

• Ensure process safety through HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
• Implement control systems, safety protocols, and emergency response plans in compliance with industry standards (API, ASME, ISO).
• Oversee production chemistry, corrosion control, and material selection to maintain asset integrity.

3. Operational Collaboration

• Work closely with operations, HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment), and project teams to align process solutions with production goals, safety, and efficiency targets. for troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and performance improvement initiatives.

4. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement process improvements, new technologies, and best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
• Lead pilot projects, feasibility studies, and technology evaluations for process upgrades.

5. Regulatory & Standards Compliance

• Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, NFPA) and local/regional regulations (e.g., International environmental laws, EU directives).
• Maintain documentation, audits, and certifications for process safety and regulatory compliance.

6. Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Lead and mentor a team of process engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, safety, and innovation.
• Develop training programs and knowledge‑sharing initiatives to upskill team members.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related field.

Experience

10+ years of experience in process engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership or senior role. Proven track record in process design, optimization, and safety management for production facilities, refineries, or petrochemical plants. Experience in Oil & Gas, energy, or chemical industries is highly preferred.

Skills

• Strong process design, simulation, and optimization skills (e.g., HYSYS, Aspen Plus).
• Expertise in process safety management (HAZOP, PHA, risk assessments).
• Knowledge of industry standards (API, ASME, ISO) and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams (operations, HSE, projects).

Languages

• Fluent in English (mandatory).
• French and/or Arabic is a plus (for international projects).
