This position is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 HEALIKICK project (grant 874889). The project aims to deliver next generation bone graft materials for the repair of major critical defects and involves collaboration with the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, Navarra, Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces and Biodonostia Health Research Institute, along with industrial partners at Histocell, Bilbao.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Processing biological samples from animal models for histological analysis and further multimodal analysis, with imaging and materials characterization.
- Responsible for general lab aspects: maintaining laboratory protocols, safety records, facilitating day-to-day lab work, preparing solutions and aliquots, stock maintenance, ordering general lab supplies, maintaining inventory, laboratory budget, providing general lab support and training as needed.
- Collaboration with ongoing projects in the lab. We perform a large variety of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments, including work with biomaterial scaffolds and hydrogels and multiscale correlative characterization of tissue samples. General lab experience in a biomedical lab will be positively evaluated.
- You will participate in regular HEALIKICK consortium meetings and larger consortium events. Our lab also maintains an active part in Germany, as well as interaction with partners at the Max Planck Queensland Center.
Requirements
Research Field Biological sciences
Education Level Master Degree or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications
- MSc, BSc or vocational training in Biotechnology, Biomedical engineering, Biomedicine or similar.
- Previous experience (2 years of lab technician ideal) in as many tasks as possible required for the position: sample preparation, histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, microscopy.
- Interest to learn and grow professionally in a young, dynamic and competitive lab
- Commitment to perform the tasks with excellence.
- Strong organization skills, project management and proactive "getting things done" mentality
- Excellent ability to conduct experiments independently and collaboratively within our group.
- Good knowledge of English. If the level is basic, a commitment to improve it will be required.
- Prior experience with animal models, biomaterials and cell culture is preferred but not required.
- A disability certificate of 33% or higher is a plus.

CONTRACTUAL CONDITIONS
- TYPE OF CONTRACT (LEGAL REFERENCE): Permanent contract linked to technical scientific activities. Probation period of 6 months.
- EXPECTED START DATE: October-November 2025
- ANNUAL GROSS SALARY: 24,000€ - 27,000€ gross per year
The remuneration shall be based on the candidate’s commitment and merit, as well as how suited they are for the role. The worker must comply with the operating rules set by the Biogipuzkoa Institute in terms of commitment, duties, working hours, leave entitlements, etc.
