This is a unique opportunity for a logistics expert to strategically lead Modernas global external logistics and packaging partnerships. The Manager 3PL Management will own the full lifecycle of third-party logistics (3PL) relationships from RFP to offboarding driving strategic integration automation and innovation. Operating globally from our Madrid hub this individual will be responsible for embedding AI-driven performance management systems ensuring end-to-end GDP / GMP compliance and integrating tools like SAP and Veeva into daily logistics workflows. The role demands a collaborative mindset working cross-functionally with Quality IT Manufacturing Supply Chain Legal and Finance to build a best-in-class logistics network that is efficient scalable and compliant. This role offers direct exposure to cutting-edge digital transformation as well as an opportunity to innovate and optimize Modernas global distribution infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will be :

  • Own and manage global end-to-end 3PL relationships including logistics packaging and device partners
  • Lead RFP processes partner selection onboarding and contract lifecycle management
  • Implement and monitor clear KPIs to track performance and drive accountability
  • Embed systems and generative AI tools to automate and elevate 3PL operations
  • Act as a key SAP and Veeva user for all 3PL-related activities and logistics change controls
  • Ensure GDP / GMP compliance across all 3PL-related customs and handling processes
  • Coordinate Quality Finance Legal and Supply Chain input for compliant and optimized partner management

Your responsibilities will also include :

  • Optimize logistics lanes and regional setups with focus on cost lead time agility and sustainability
  • Support daily logistics flows including inbound outbound and intercompany movements
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement projects across the 3PL network
  • Support deployment of IT and digital tools that streamline logistics operations
  • Act as the voice of 3PL strategy within cross-functional logistics projects and stakeholder alignment

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: BS / BA degree in supply chain / logistics engineering or management / business administration
  • Experience: 8-10 years (BS) or 5-8 years (MS) in various Distribution / Logistics functions and Supply Chain
  • Strong preference for Pharmaceutical and Biotech experience. Experience working in a cGMP and cGDP environment with a good understanding of the Pharma industry & Supply Chain
  • 5 years managing 3PL partners in a regulated and / or tech-forward logistics environment
  • Proven experience with full 3PL lifecycle incl. RFPs onboarding SLA / KPI setup and exit strategies
  • Experience in SAP or related ERP system is required
  • Experience of logistics software (transport management system visibility tools EDI connection)
  • Well organized with the ability to think, communicate, and conduct work effectively
  • Demonstrate a strong and independent work ethic that sees tasks to completion
  • You drive for results and demonstrate the ability to develop solutions
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) to collaborate with senior management in a dynamic cross-functional matrix environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • A curious mindset that allows you to constantly learn and challenge the status quo

Preferred Qualifications

  • A desire to make an impact as part of a high-growth transformational company that is Bold Relentless Curious and Collaborative
  • APICS certification (CSCP or CLTD) is a plus
  • Experience with Cold Chain Transportation Products
  • Working knowledge of GDP and relevant guidelines and regulations
