Purpose of Role

El Altillo International School is seeking a qualified and experienced Geography & History Teacher for Secondary students. Applicants must have experience in teaching and be excited by the challenge of contributing to curriculum development. The successful applicant will be an accomplished teacher with experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching which will inspire our students. They will also understand the importance of being part of a pedagogical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to up to students following our curriculum.
  • Review lessons and resources regularly to ensure maximum engagement and clear opportunities for pupils to develop key linguistic skills.
  • Prepare and set tests, including a baseline assessment test at the beginning of the course.
  • Be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in their class ensuring equality of opportunity for all students.
  • Be responsible and accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct.
  • Treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and observe proper boundaries.
  • Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with learners, parents/carers, other staff and external agencies in the best interests of pupils.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the school.
  • Any other responsibilities as requested by the pedagogical department.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver the curriculum as relevant to the age and ability group, subject and that you teach.
  • Prepare and develop teaching materials and programmes.
  • Be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of pupils you teach.
  • Plan teaching and differentiate appropriately based on pupils’ capabilities and prior knowledge.
  • Use distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support pupils with special educational needs, gifted and talented, EAL, disabilities, etc.
  • Promote high standards of literacy and correct use of spoken English.
  • If teaching early reading, use systematic synthetic phonics and appropriate strategies.
  • Use observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies to set challenging learning objectives and monitor progress.
  • Use accurate marking and feedback to encourage pupils to reflect and take responsibility for their work.
  • Use data to monitor progress, set targets and plan subsequent lessons.
  • Participate in arrangements for examinations and assessments.
Behaviour and Safety
  • Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect.
  • Manage classes effectively using approaches appropriate to pupils’ needs.
  • Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority and act decisively when necessary.
  • Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistent positive attitudes, values and behaviour expected of pupils.
  • Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self‑control and independence of all learners.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the school, raising concerns following school protocol.
Team Working and Collaboration
  • Participate in relevant meetings, professional development and assemblies.
  • Work as a team member and share effective practice with colleagues.
  • Contribute to selection and professional development.
  • Ensure colleagues working with you are involved in supporting learning and understand their roles.
  • Cover for absent colleagues if required.

  • Develop effective professional relationships with others.
  • Deploy support staff as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers about pupils’ achievements and well‑being.
