A major sports media organization is looking for a Freelancer as a Content and Archive Architecture Specialist. This fully remote role involves creating and governing metadata frameworks, collaborating with archive operations, and innovating with emerging technologies to enhance discoverability. The ideal candidate has a strong background in information science and significant experience in metadata management, alongside a passion for preserving the Olympic media legacy. Some travel to Madrid may be required.

We are requiring the Services of a Freelancer to be part of Digital Operations, as a Content and Archive Architecture Specialist to be responsible for the designs and governs metadata, taxonomy, and content architecture frameworks for the Olympic archives. This role ensures all Games-generated content is structured, enriched, and easily discoverable across archival systems.

Working closely with the Archive team, the Specialist aligns metadata architecture with operational workflows, integrating Games-time metadata into permanent systems. By bridging content structure and archive operations, this position enhances metadata quality, optimises workflows, and safeguards the Olympic media legacy.

Duties & Responsibilities

Design & Govern Metadata Frameworks

  • Develop and maintain metadata schemas, controlled vocabularies, and taxonomies for archival use.
  • Define and ensure consistency of time-coded tagging standards.
  • Establish governance for metadata integrity and long-term reliability.

Collaborate with Archive Operations (OBS & OCS)

  • Align content architecture with archive workflows from capture to preservation.
  • Support integration of Games-time metadata into permanent archives.
  • Ensure enrichment processes meet both production and preservation needs.

Optimise Systems for Discoverability & Access

  • Enhance interoperability across archive systems for advanced search and retrieval.
  • Support scalable archiving of large volumes of audiovisual content.
  • Enable tailored access for various user groups (internal teams, broadcasters, historians).

Innovate with Emerging Technologies

  • Explore AI/ML tools for metadata enrichment and semantic indexing.
  • Evaluate and apply new digital preservation standards.
  • Keep metadata frameworks adaptable and future-proof.

Safeguard the Olympic Legacy

  • Ensure metadata supports both real-time storytelling and long-term preservation.
  • Promote best practices in digital preservation to maintain content accessibility.
Skills, Requirements & Qualifications
  • Degree in Information Science, Data Management, Archival Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in creation of metadata management, taxonomy, and ontology design.
  • Knowledge of time-coded metadata in audiovisual environments.
  • Understanding of archival workflows and digital preservation.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML metadata tools and semantic technologies.
  • Experience in sports, broadcasting, or the Olympics content is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication in a multicultural setting.
  • Passion for preserving the Olympic media legacy.
  • Fast paced and high impacting work environment.
  • Subject to national / international criminal background checks.
  • This is a fully remote role, with potential travel to Madrid.
