A leading technology company in Madrid is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel to support energy procurement and compliance initiatives. Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented energy and utilities lawyer in Madrid, Spain to fill the position of Associate Corporate Counsel to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on‑demand compute capacity, machine learning services, generative AI, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers, and more. This position will support AWS’s global energy and water teams in working with utilities, constructing new infrastructure, and piloting innovative, carbon‑free energy projects in support of The Climate Pledge, which commits Amazon to achieve net zero carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
As Associate Corporate Counsel, you will partner with AWS’s business teams to support renewable energy procurement, global energy and water supply, infrastructure, and services agreements and provide guidance on working with private and governmental utilities as well as strategy, policy, and regulatory issues.
You will have responsibility for structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements, and counseling internal business partners on:
You will work directly with the various business teams to provide day‑to‑day advice and contract interpretation. You will also help develop, implement, and manage process improvements across the team, resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handle pre‑litigation legal disputes and inquiries. In this role, you will also interact with our Sustainability, Public Policy, Public Relations, Accounting, Finance, Economic Development and Tax teams as well as the broader AWS Infrastructure teams.
