About Wooptix

Wooptix is a semiconductor wafer metrology innovator that provides the fastest, most accurate in‑line measurements with the highest lateral resolution. Through its use of wavefront phase imaging (WFPI), a proprietary technique derived from research in adaptive optics, its systems measure the shape, uniformity, nanotopography and roughness of the entire silicon wafer in a single image. It is actively deploying solutions at various customer sites across Asia, Europe and North America.

Together with their resistance to vibrations and ease of adapting to the user’s needs, they are valuable systems for measuring the wafer shape and nanotopography in a single image.

Our Mission

We design and develop disruptive metrology equipment for the semiconductor industry, delivering unmatched resolution and precision with the highest throughput.

About The Role

We are looking for a motivated Application Engineer to join our team and support our customers in the deployment, use, and optimization of Wooptix metrology tools. As an Application Engineer, you will act as the technical interface between our customers and internal teams, including R&D, Field Service, and Product Development. You will ensure successful tool integration and high customer satisfaction throughout the product lifecycle including pre‑sales work for strategic projects (product applications, demonstrations, technical support of evaluations) as well as 2nd line post‑sales and internal support (training, resolving advanced issues, customer meetings). In addition, you will provide application support by working closely with customers to help them maximize the performance and capabilities of our systems. This role requires a combination of hands‑on technical expertise, strong customer engagement, project management skills, and the ability to translate user feedback into product performance improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and collaborate with customers (e.g. R&D and engineering teams) and provide technical support to enhance system performance, perform wafer measurements, and data processing for their specific applications.
  • The Application Engineer may have the opportunity to act as Project Leader, managing internal or external collaborative projects (e.g., joint development programmes) from initial definition through to final milestone reporting. A comprehensive follow‑up of each project will be required, ensuring coordination with all relevant contributors. Regular reporting and internal meetings will be implemented to identify potential risks or delays and define mitigation actions, when necessary, for top management.
  • Conduct demonstrations and evaluate tool performance against customer specifications.
  • Deliver customer training sessions and technical documentation, reports.
  • The Application Engineer will have the opportunity to co‑author technical publications and represent the company at leading industry conferences.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction and long‑term success.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with customers during critical situations, such as unexpected equipment issues, complex troubleshooting, and escalation procedures.
  • Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with customers in high‑pressure situations by delivering comprehensive reports, ensuring clear and transparent communication, and providing detailed action plans and solutions to support the customers as quickly as possible.
  • Support field service and troubleshooting activities remotely or in person.
  • Provide on‑site support for system installation, testing, qualification, debug issues, and support developments.
  • Manage and perform Fab Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and conduct data measurement processing and analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with the Wooptix R&D and Product Development Teams to tailor solutions to customer needs and deliver comprehensive application reports.
  • Understand customer use cases and translate them into feedback for product improvement.
  • Gather and analyse customer feedback to drive continuous service process improvements.
  • Establish safety procedures and related training programmes, and ensure their implementation and compliance.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to travel internationally (up to 30‑50%), including Asia, North America, and Europe.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical and application support, metrology, device fabrication, or process development within semiconductor R&D or industry.
  • Experience in 3D integration, hybrid bonding, wafer‑to‑wafer bonding, die‑to‑wafer, die‑to‑die, or heterogeneous integration, as well as related metrology, is a plus.
  • Experience with semiconductor fabs and cleanroom protocols.
  • Excellent communication, training, and customer support skills.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is mandatory. Knowledge of Spanish, French, or another language would be a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Knowledge of wafer processing, process control, or optical inspection.
  • Experience in semiconductor metrology, optics, or related fields is a plus.
  • Familiarity with software tools (Python, LabView, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Wooptix equipment is installed in a cleanroom environment, requiring the continuous use of protective and lightweight clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (e.g., bunny suit, hood, booties, safety glasses, gloves, earplugs or earmuffs, and safety boots). Cleanrooms are controlled environments with regulated temperature and humidity and can be extremely noisy. During installation, maintenance, and repair, the Application Engineer may be required to work in awkward or elevated positions to support Field Service Engineer, as well as stoop, bend, or crawl while wearing protective and cleanroom clothing and PPE. This requires excellent physical condition and strict adherence to safety procedures. The application Engineer must have no medical contraindications or restrictions preventing them from working in such conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 12 kg, without medical contraindications or restrictions, while wearing protective and cleanroom clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • In critical and exceptional situations involving a customer issue, Application Engineers may be required to work in shifts or during the weekend at the customer site on a voluntary basis, with a special compensation package.
What we offer
  • Indefinite full‑time contract.
  • 23 working days of holiday.
  • Competitive salary range.
  • We are a fast‑growing scale‑up with a startup spirit, where collaboration, innovation, and professional growth are part of our everyday culture. You’ll be surrounded by highly talented professionals in a dynamic and motivating environment, with plenty of opportunities to develop your career.
  • Our core values are the foundation that unites us and drives everything we do: Trustworthy, Resilient, Committed to Excellence, and Innovators by Instinct.
  • Development and growth: We offer continuous development and training opportunities within a rapidly expanding company.
  • Flexible working hours to support a healthy work‑life balance — you can start your day anytime between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m. and finish between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. We also enjoy intensive working hours every Friday and during the summer months (July and August).
  • Private medical insurance after one year with the company.
