The Department of Business and Tax Law conducts basic research in the areas of Tax Law, Corporate Law, Accounting Law and Private Law. It consists of a research-strong team of highly skilled legal scholars both at the doctoral and at the postdoctoral level. The main focus of our work is on international, comparative and European tax and corporate law as well as on interdisciplinary approaches to these topics.
The Department of Business and Tax Law of the Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance (Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Wolfgang Schön) has a vacancy for the following position to start as soon as possible:
The Institute is a member institute of the Max Planck Society (MPG). The MPG is one of the worldwide leading international research institutions. The Institute has an excellent research infrastructure– including a world‑class library– and the financial and institutional resources to conduct fundamental research, to organize workshops and conferences and to engage in international research networks. It closely collaborates with the Faculty of Law at the University of Munich (LMU).
The ideal candidate has very good knowledge in international, European and/or comparative tax or corporate law. The applicant has completed a doctorate in law on a topic that is related to the research topics mentioned above. We expect the candidate to be willing to contribute to the ongoing or already designed research questions of our group. Ideally, the candidate sets up their own multi-year project addressing foundational issues in our fields. Fluency in written and spoken English is expected; command of German is an advantage.
We offer a position in which the researcher can qualify for positions with higher seniority at universities and research institutions through scientific work and publishing. The position is limited to three years. An extension is possible. Remuneration is based on qualifications and professional experience according to the collective agreement for the public service (TVöDBund). In addition, social benefits are granted according to the regulations for the public service (Bund).
We are an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds. The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
Please submit your written application (cover letter, curriculum vitae with list of publications, references) preferably via our online form by June 30, 2025 at the latest.
