Hannover Medical School (MHH), Institute of Virology, located at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, invites applications for a W1 university professorship for Systems Virology (m/f/d) The position will be filled as a civil servant or non-tariff employee in accordance with salary grade W1 of Annex 3 to the NBesG. The appointment commences as soon as possible and is initially limited to three years. Following a positive interim evaluation, the position may be extended for an additional three years. The future holder of the position will represent the field of Systems Virology in research and teaching. The research focus should be on analyzing viral infections using innovative, system-wide methods to elucidate virus-virus and virus-host interaction networks. The research group will be located in the MHH laboratories at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. It should interact closely with the scientific community there and serve as a collaborative interface between the virology working groups at the CSSB and the MHH. Requirements for appointment are a completed university degree and a doctorate. Internationally outstanding research results are required, and initial successful third-party funding acquisitions are desirable.
We are looking for an integrative personality with an internationally visible research profile in systems virology. Strengthening scientific collaborative research with a special focus on the three main areas of the MHH (infection/immunity, transplantation/regeneration, biomedical engineering/implants) is expected, and support for the excellence strategy is highly desirable. Opportunities for participation are available in the RESIST (Resolving Infection Susceptibility) Cluster of Excellence, the German Centers for Health Research, German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) and German Center for Lung Research (DZL), and the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Lower Saxony.
The professorship is part of the Institute of Virology at MHH in Hanover but is based at the cross-state, cross-institutional CSSB alliance institute in Hamburg. The CSSB, located at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, is dedicated to the high-resolution analysis of interactions between pathogens and their hosts and offers an excellent international research environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure. A commitment to teaching students, especially in the model degree program "HannibaL" in human medicine, in the degree program in dentistry, and in the bioscience degree programs at MHH, is required. Innovative teaching approaches and additional didactic qualifications are expressly welcome.
