General Description: This is a technical position. The incumbent performs routine repairs on Utility equipment. Assignments will involve work in one of the following areas: (1) electrical / mechanical, (2) utility construction, (3) sewer collection operations, (4) distribution operations.
Organization: The Utility Technician is part of Hanover County's Career Development Program (CD). The Utility Technician Ladder has four levels ranging from Utility Technician I to Utility Technician III and Senior Utility Technician for only the electrical / mechanical classification. Incumbents report to a Utility Supervisor or Superintendent and supervise no staff; however, Senior Utility Technicians and Utility Technicians III may serve as workflow leaders to lower-level Utility Technicians.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to understand and to follow oral and written instructions. Familiarity with the equipment and techniques necessary to perform assigned work tasks, preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required with related experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and / or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. Higher levels on the Career Ladder require additional experience and training.
