Jobbeschreibung
Overview

At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. We focus on offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. With more than 400 employees, including around 100 students, from over 50 countries, we work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams to develop methods that accelerate wind energy and hydrogen economy expansion, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency.

This team needs your support. You will be part of the group "Global Turbine Dynamics" at our site in Bremerhaven. The team currently consists of five employees and several students. We conduct research in aero-servo-hydroelastic simulations of wind turbines, focusing on improving simulation and validation methods for onshore, offshore and floating wind turbines. We value open exchange in German or English and respectful cooperation.

What you will do
  • Support mooring systems research for floating offshore wind turbines by conducting a literature review of state-of-the-art methods for mooring line and hydrodynamic load modeling.
  • Perform simulations using tools such as IWES\'s in-house aero-servo-hydroelastic tool MoWiT.
  • Compare and analyze results and contribute to improving the dynamic mooring line and hydrodynamic load model in MoWiT.
  • Develop novel mooring system models, such as a single point mooring line (SPM) model.
What you bring to the table

What is your background?

  • Master's student in Mechanical, Wind, or Naval Engineering (or related field).
  • Some experience in systems engineering and knowledge of wind energy.
  • Solid Python skills; knowledge of Modelica and offshore structures/mooring systems is a plus.
What you can expect

What we can offer you

  • Opportunities to join as a student (internship, student assistant, or thesis topics).
  • Flexibility in scheduling and, where appropriate, remote work with agreement from colleagues.
