Vielfältige Aufgaben
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Metocean Expert to support the development and operation of offshore wind projects. This role is critical in providing accurate and actionable metocean conditions to inform site selection, engineering design, installation planning, and operational strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in oceanography and meteorology, with specific experience in offshore wind development.
In detail, you will
- Lead metocean assessments for offshore wind projects from early-stage development through to operations. Oversee the deployment and management of metocean measurement campaigns, including floating LiDAR, wave buoys, and ADCPs
- Analyze wind, wave, current, and tidal data to support turbine layout optimization, foundation design, cable routing and transport & installation. Experience in statistical analysis. Act as technical contact and review third-party metocean reports, interpret satellite and reanalysis datasets
- Collaborate with engineering, environmental and construction teams to integrate metocean insights into project planning and execution
- Contribute to risk assessments related to weather downtime, extreme events and climate variability. Support long-term climatology studies
- Develop and implement plans to enhance your team’s capabilities and to standardize processes and methods across the project portfolio. Support the head of department developing the sub-area and contribute to internal knowledge sharing
Überzeugendes Profil- Master’s or PhD in Oceanography, Meteorology, Marine Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in metocean analysis, with at least 3 years in offshore wind and proficiency in metocean modeling tools (e.g., SWAN, WRF, MIKE, OpenFOAM) and data analysis software (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
- Strong understanding of offshore wind project lifecycle and technical requirements. Further experience with floating LiDAR systems and remote sensing technologies
- Familiarity with bidding, regulatory and permitting processes in offshore wind markets
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and networking skills. Ability to explain complex technical content targeted to the respective audience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German (minimum level C1)
