We are looking for a candidate to become our new Satellite Ground System Mission Planning Architect for national space projects within Airbus Space Engineering, located in Friedrichshafen, Germany. You will be a member of the System Architecture & Lead Engineering Team with great team‑players beside you.

As a Software Architect with focus on Mission Planning for ground systems, you will be part of a team based in Friedrichshafen supporting our integrated national space mission project teams. You will develop and optimize the architecture for mission planning, specify and integrate hardware and software components, and configure systems for the efficient planning and execution of satellite missions. Beside these operational activities, you will contribute to our transformation plan that has the vision to become national champion for high‑performance Ground‑Space Mission Solutions. You will work on concrete operational tasks while capitalising return of experience for future secure space solution improvement.

Tasks & Accountabilities

• Definition and design of satellite ground segments focusing on mission planning software, utilizing modern methods (Scrum, Model Based Systems Engineering)
• Requirements analysis and architecture definition for ground segments regarding mission planning systems, scheduling, resource management, and interfaces to other ground segment components
• Design trade‑offs and interface management: evaluation and optimisation of design decisions, identification of internal and external interfaces, creation of interface control documents (ICD)
• Specification of software elements and redundancy concepts for mission planning systems
• Contribution to the definition of ground segment operation concepts and training
• Cost estimates for ground segment developments and operations related to mission planning
• Support in system development, AIV (Assembly, Integration, Verification) with a focus on mission planning software
• Contributions to proposals, studies, and R&D activities related to mission planning
• Technical management for the procurement of software components for mission planning systems
• Interdisciplinary collaboration: Space Segment Engineering, Performance Engineering, Operations Engineering, and other relevant teams

Required Skills

• Completed university degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification and more than 5 years of professional experience in software development (agile development, Linux environments, DevOps, cloud platforms like Kubernetes), focus on mission planning or related fields
• Technical expertise: experience in designing and integrating software solutions for mission planning systems, knowledge in infrastructure design and integration, experience with RedHat and RedHat OpenShift (a plus)
• Knowledge of processes and standards in the aerospace industry (e.g., ECSS, CCSDS)
• Adaptability and willingness to learn: interest and ability to quickly familiarise oneself with new technologies and methods in mission planning
• Project experience: experience working on classified projects (an advantage), experience in managing technical stakeholders in the field of mission planning (an advantage)
• Soft skills: good communication and presentation skills, team‑oriented approach, ability to collaborate interdisciplinary
• Language skills: fluent German and English language skills, French language skills (a plus)

Aufgaben und Verantwortlichkeiten

• Definition und Design von Satellitenbodensegmenten mit Fokus auf die Missionsplanungssoftware unter Nutzung modernster Methoden (Scrum, Model Based Systems Engineering)
• Anforderungsanalyse und Architekturdefinition für Bodensegmente bezüglich: Missionsplanungssysteme, Zeitplanung, Ressourcenmanagement und Schnittstellen zu anderen Bodensegmentkomponenten
• Design-Trade-Offs und Schnittstellenmanagement: Bewertung und Optimierung von Designentscheidungen, Identifikation interner und externer Schnittstellen, Erstellung von Schnittstellendokumenten (ICD)
• Spezifikation von Software-Elementen und Redundanzkonzepten für Missionsplanungssysteme
• Mitwirkung bei der Definition von Bodensegmentbetriebskonzepten und Schulung
• Kostenschätzungen für Bodensegmententwicklungen und Betrieb im Bereich der Missionsplanung

Qualifikationen:

• Abgeschlossenes Studium im Bereich Informatik oder vergleichbare Qualifikation mit mehr als 5 Jahre Berufserfahrung in der Softwareentwicklung (Agile Entwicklung, Linux Umgebungen, DevOps, Cloud‑Plattformen wie Kubernetes), Schwerpunkt auf Missionsplanung oder verwandten Gebieten
• Fachliche Expertise: Erfahrung im Design und in der Integration von Softwarelösungen für Missionsplanungssysteme, Kenntnisse in Infrastruktur Design und Integration, Erfahrung mit RedHat und RedHat OpenShift (Plus)
• Kenntnisse in Prozessen und Standards der Raumfahrtindustrie (z. B. ECSS, CCSDS)
