Overview

At the University of Göttingen - Public Law Foundation -, Abt. Forstgenetik und Forstpflanzenzüchtung, there is a position as Research Scientist (Postdoc) in Genomics and Bioinformatics (all genders welcome). Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L/100%. The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is limited to 36 months. The successful candidate will work in the project: "Precision phenotyping in Quercus rubra - Development of gene markers for early selection of drought stress tolerant seedlings" funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity.

Your tasks
  • Whole Genome Sequencing of about 570 individuals in a Quercus rubra full-sib family
  • Bioinformatic analysis of the nucleotide sequence data including SNP calling and genotyping
  • Application of drought stress and high precision phenotyping of seedlings using a LemnaTec phenotyping system
  • Genome-wide association analyses (GWAS) to identify candidate genes associated with drought tolerance
  • Comparative genomic analyses
  • Publication of results in peer‑reviewed journals
  • Assistance with the organization and coordination of the project
Your profile
  • Master degree in biology, agricultural sciences, forest sciences or related disciplines
  • High motivation and enthusiasm
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics and experience with GWAS and genomic selection methods
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of molecular breeding methods
  • Experience and profound knowledge in statistics, quantitative genetics and data analysis
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Very good publication record (dependent on the career stage)
  • Very good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
