A leading research institution in Hamburg is seeking a full-time academic for a project in computational linguistics. The role involves researching historic language variants and offers the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. Candidates should possess a university degree and experience in data management and linguistic modeling. Flexible working hours and 30 vacation days are provided.
The Hub of Computing and Data Science (HCDS) is a competence unit for research and forms the core element for the central support of digitalization and digital transformation in research at the University of Hamburg.
Salary level: EGR. 13 TV-L
Start date: 01.01.2026 pending approval of external funding, fixed until 31.12.2028 (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

Your responsibilities include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications. They may also pursue doctoral studies outside of working duties.
In the project Mittelniederdeutsche Grammatik, you will research and develop computational aspects of providing a grammar for a historic language variant online. This encompasses the following steps:
This position is subject to the decision of the Joint Science Conference (GWK) on the Academies\' Program 2026 on 28 November 2025, which includes the approval of funding for the long-term project Mittelniederdeutsche Grammatik applied for with the starting date 01.01.2026.
