Jobbeschreibung

Current INTERNAL Local National Employees throughout Germany.

This includes all current Local National employees of the U.S. Forces in Germany, such as U.S. Air Force and AAFES-Europe personnel within Germany.

EXTERNAL Local National Applicants residing in Germany.

This role serves as a German (GE) legal attorney and advisor within the HQ USAREUR-AF, OJA Client Services Division. It involves providing expert legal opinions and advice on GE laws, precedents, and their application to eligible clients in the HQ USAREUR-AF and US Army Garrison Wiesbaden (USAG Wiesbaden) area of responsibility, as well as to clients elsewhere based on extensive subject matter expertise or conflict of interest considerations.

The position includes responsibilities for formulation, development, and administration of Legal Assistance, Tax Assistance, and Preventive Law practices. It involves mentoring and training junior U.S. military, US and HN civilian attorneys, and staff on relevant legal matters. Translation of complex legal documents between German and English is required, along with providing professional legal services in areas such as family law, estate law, consumer affairs, real estate, insurance, tax, landlord/tenant disputes, administrative law, military/civilian law, tort law, claims, and others.

The role also includes advising on host nation marriage, separation, divorce, paternity, child custody, wills, guardianship, healthcare directives, leases, evictions, landlord disputes, personal property, bankruptcy, debts, banking, credit cards, insurance, taxes, criminal matters, and traffic violations. It involves guiding clients in negotiations, maintaining current knowledge of German legal developments, and advising on legal documents and procedures.

Additional duties include policy and legal program management, providing briefings and training at conferences, translating legal documents, and reviewing outgoing legal correspondence for quality. The position requires familiarity with German judicial, legislative, and regulatory developments affecting US Forces operations.

Qualifications include graduation from a German university with a major in German law, possession of the 1st and 2nd State Examination, and at least 2 years of relevant professional experience. A valid Driver's License class B is required. Language proficiency in English and German at level C1 is mandatory.
