Overview

TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer. The Department of Social Sciences comprises the Institute of Sociology (ISO), the Social Research Center Dortmund (sfs) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Didactics (IDIF).

Responsibilities
  • The professorship represents the field of General Sociology in research and teaching and further develops this with international visibility.
  • Participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University.
  • Apply for and implement competitively awarded third-party funded projects and help shape and further develop the profile of the Institute of Sociology and the Department of Social Sciences and their international positioning.
  • Actively promote early career researchers and participate in the teaching activities of the department.
Qualifications
  • You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification.
  • You have a well-defined sociological research profile with broad expertise in sociological theory, and perform empirical research (preferably using qualitative methods).
  • You have demonstrated your research reputation through continuous and relevant publications (including international ones) in recognized, peer-reviewed venues; international visibility is desirable.
  • You have successfully and independently acquired competitively awarded third-party funding.
  • You display potential for teaching excellence and are willing to hold courses in English. Experience in teaching general sociology/introduction to sociology is desirable.
  • Social and leadership skills and willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile.
  • Recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (HG) apply.
