eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.
As a Mechanical Engineer - Cryogenics & Vacuum (f/m/d), you will be part of a team with a mission to develop, set up and operate our trapped-ion quantum computers and relevant test devices. You will collaborate closely with our international team of physicists and engineers from different disciplines. Depending on your level of experience, you will work on one or more of the following tasks:
Carry out the development and design of highly innovative mechanical components, and their integration into the overall quantum computer design system in cooperation with systems experts
Take responsibility for the detailed design of thermal pathways and interfaces, and tracking thermal budgets for quantum computers
Create 3D CAD models and drawings for manufacturing, define the product’s mechanical design, and manage CAD data, parts lists, and the Bill of Materials (BOM)
Define manufacturing specifications, support procurement in supplier validation, and collaborate with suppliers on methods, materials, and requirements
Assist with quick proof of concepts and feasibility discussions
Test mechanical prototypes and check them against specifications
Facilitate proactive communication and close coordination with customers and suppliers in collaboration with procurement
Continuously optimize processes within the existing work environment
BSc. or MSc degree in mechanical engineering or comparable.
3+ years of experience in an engineering or R&D environment.
Experience in design and development of bespoke machinery or systems
Experience with cryogenics and pumped vacuum applications
Experience in manufacturing processes and treatments of broad range of materials beside steel and aluminum
Knowledge of setting up product structure in PDM, PLM and ERP System
Experience with systematic product development processes
Well organized and structured way of working
Being adaptable while practicing critical thinking
Business fluent in English, knowledge of German is a plus
Experience with ultra-high vacuum and/or optics
Experience in the design and manufacturing processes for high precision systems
Proficiency in CAD packages, preferably SolidWorks
Experience in FEM simulations and calculations
An excellent grasp of the fundamentals of mechanical engineering with practical experience
Knowledge of industry standards and mechanical tolerance analysis
Disciplined in thorough documentation
