Offer Description

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. A position as a lecturer with a specified function in Turkish language teachingis to be filled as of 1 April 2026 at the Faculty 05 at the Institute for Slavic, Turkic and Circum-Baltic Studies in the Department of Turcology.

  • Teaching courses (8 course Hours [SWS]) at the bachelor’s level in Turkish and Ottoman, as well as in the master's program "Supplementary Qualifications" (Turkish Certificate), including Turkish grammar, conversation, country profile, translation exercises, and Ottoman I and II
  • Correction and supervision tasks
  • Providing academic advising for bachelor's and master's degree programs in collaboration with the Department of Turcology

Applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 58 in conjunction with § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate

  • A successfully completed university degree in Turkish Studies or a comparable subject with a focus on language teaching
  • A doctorate in a field relevant to the position, in Turkish Studies or a comparable subject
  • Post-graduation at least 2.5 years of experience in a primary occupation
  • Teaching aptitude and extensive teaching experience in Turkish and Ottoman Turkish
  • Very good passive and active knowledge of modern Turkish, both spoken and written, and of Turkish grammar
  • Good knowledge of German (at least B2 level)
  • Knowledge of examination regulations and scholarship and research programmes, or willingness to learn
