Jobbeschreibung

A deep-tech innovator working on next-generation photonic computing is looking for a Junior Characterization Engineer to join their fast-growing R&D team. If you’re passionate about optics, precision testing, and want to work with cutting-edge materials like Thin-Film Lithium Niobate (TFLN), this could be the ideal next step in your career.

The Role

You’ll play a key role in testing and validating photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and optical modules. Working closely with the design and process teams, you’ll be responsible for delivering accurate test data that supports product development and manufacturing. This is a hands‑on lab role with a focus on precision, automation, and problem‑solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform optical and electrical characterization of PICs and photonic modules
  • Operate and improve automated test setups including probe stations and RF equipment
  • Support root cause analysis and design validation through detailed test reporting
  • Maintain lab equipment, ensuring safe and efficient daily operations
  • Work to improve testing throughput and accuracy using scripting and automation
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optoelectronics, or a related field
  • At least 1 year of experience in photonic device characterization (e.g., during studies, internships, or industry roles)
  • Hands‑on experience with optical fiber alignment, laser safety, and basic RF setups
  • Programming knowledge in Python; experience with LabVIEW or MATLAB a plus
  • Familiarity with tools like VNAs, high‑speed oscilloscopes, and optical spectrum analyzers is an advantage
  • Fluent English (German or another European language is a bonus)
Why Apply?
  • Be part of a team building advanced photonic processors for AI and high‑performance computing
  • Gain hands‑on experience with a proprietary TFLN chip platform
  • Work in a collaborative, international environment where your ideas will be heard
  • Grow your skills alongside experienced engineers, with direct exposure to company leadership
  • Competitive salary and full‑time, permanent role with career progression potential
