Overview

Job Description : Interested in helping to engineer the future of navigation systems in Europe. The navigation department at Airbus Defence and Space in Taufkirchen is looking for a GNSS Performance Specialist (d / f / m).

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our GNSS performance team and support our navigation system and performance activities for our customers ESA and EUSPA. You will help to define analyze and validate future Galileo Navigation Services.

You will join the Airbus Navigation Department at the Airbus site near Munich. With more than 100 engineers and 25 years of experience it is one of the leading expert groups in Europe for the development and implementation of the European satellite navigation systems EGNOS and Galileo. A pleasant and international working environment innovative technology and interactions with specialists and experts will be part of your daily working experience.

Your responsibilities
  • Definition and validation of service requirements for new Galileo Services with focus on Open Service, Navigation Message Authentication, Emergency Warning Service and future Search and Rescue Services for Remote Beacon Activation, Distress Position Sharing or Two-Way Communication.
  • Definition of service concept and service design for new Galileo Services and support to the elaboration of feasibility / improvement analysis for new Galileo services.
  • Development, implementation and maintenance of software tools for testing and validation of future Galileo services by post-processing of GNSS receiver data.
  • Execution of Galileo service performance analysis and service performance prediction by means of software tools for Service Volume Simulation.
  • Participation in service validation campaigns to assess the performance of Galileo test signals in different user environments.
  • Definition of key performance indicators (KPI) to characterize the Service Performance and implementation of software tools for KPI monitoring.
  • Support to the definition of Minimum Performance Levels to be specified in the public Service Definition Document for future Galileo Services.
  • Support to the preparation of the Service Validation Plans, development and specification of Test Cases and Test Procedures, preparation of test reports, assessment and presentation of test results.
  • Flow-down of Service Requirements to System and Service Facility specifications.
  • Follow-up of the validation activities of other stakeholders (collection of verification credits from system qualification activities, operational validation and external participants to the validation campaign).
  • Participation in project reviews.
  • Support to the Galileo Service Requirements Engineering and Validation team for any topic related to Galileo services, Galileo mission and system evolution (including the Galileo Second Generation) and contribution to any other tasks of the Galileo System Support team as necessary.
  • Liaison with the customer (EUSPA, ESA) in relation to the tasks above.
Your skills and qualifications
  • Masters degree in Navigation, Electrical Engineering, Geodesy, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering or similar
  • Detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of system design, navigation signals and system performance of GNSS (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS) or Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (EGNOS)
  • Basic understanding of GNSS receiver processing techniques and basic understanding of modern cryptographic approaches for secure communication and data authentication
  • Experience in software development with C, C++, Python or Matlab
  • Familiarity with basic systems engineering processes and experience with requirements engineering and verification according to ECSS standards
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and define innovative solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills (teamwork, communication, professional contact with customers)
  • Fluent in English
