Overview

Tesla's Supplier Industrialization Engineering team drives critical component development and qualification at suppliers. This role demands cross-functional collaboration with expert technical insight, on-the-spot critical decision-making, and strong communication to align internal and external stakeholders. The ultimate goal: Deliver high-quality components on time to support Tesla's extremely rapid development cycles and product launches.

The Dimensional Engineer will develop and validate measurement systems with Tesla's suppliers to ensure they meet Tesla's exacting standards. This includes reviewing drawings, measurement plans, procedures, and protocols, as well as designing, developing, and qualifying measuring fixtures and gauges. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in dimensional engineering principles, measurement uncertainty, process validation methodologies, and fixture design.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Expertise and System Development: Serve as the Supply Chain technical expert for dimensional engineering, providing hands-on guidance and deep dives to resolve complex issues in Tesla's fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with Design and Supplier Industrialization Engineers to develop measurement systems and processes, ensuring suppliers comply with Tesla's dimensional requirements.
  • Review drawings and technical specifications to assure compliance with measurement standards.
  • Validation and Qualification: Lead gauge and fixture concept and design, including development and qualification activities.
  • Conduct measurement system validation and qualification, including Gauge R&R studies, to confirm accuracy, reliability, and alignment with quality standards.
  • Audit measurement systems at suppliers to identify risks, drive improvements, and maintain compliance.
  • Analysis and Problem Solving: Perform data analysis and problem solving, including hands-on investigations, to accelerate resolutions and reduce disruptions in the supply chain.
  • Apply statistics analysis and process control techniques to enhance supplier performance, inform data-driven decisions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct dimensional stack analysis, such as 3DCS, to evaluate tolerances, predict variations, and ensure design and manufacturing compliance.
Requirements
  • BS Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience with exceptional ability).
  • 5+ years of experience in Supplier Industrialization, Quality, or Product Development Engineering.
  • Excellent understanding of GD&T, ASME Y14.5 preferred.
  • Experienced with CAD design software, CATIA preferred.
